I’ve ordered a custom cake from the Publix bakery. I’m picking it up Saturday morning. I’ve ordered a custom cake from them before but they didn’t do it how I asked. I didn’t complain or anything then, I just took it since it was similar to how it was supposed to be.
I’m worried that they will mess up again. If they do, do you think that they will remake it for free and have it ready the same day?
If anyone has any previous experience with the Publix bakery and can help I would really appreciate it.
The day before Father’s day, huh? They will probably be completely overrun with orders and be on the verge of a nervous breakdown, this same thing happens to the cake decorators in my bakery every holiday. Everyone learns to hate holidays, your workload goes up by 50%, yet they whine if you get overtime. Your only option is to drink Red Bull by the gallon and just get the extra work done in the same amount of time. I’m glad I’m a baker, and only some of my holidays are bad(like the popular holidays for grilling, where they put 8-packs of French Hamburger buns on sale, and I have to make like 50 million of them).
Anyway, Publix is really supposed to pride themselves on giving the customers what they want, so they really should be making an effort to get your cake right. I would say the last time was probably a fluke. On a slow day I’m sure they would redo it for free and have it ready quickly, they wouldn’t even be *that* angry. As for whether they would redo it on a holiday the same day for free, I’m not sure what the official policy is, I’m not a decorator, but I think it would actually come down to the manager. Of course, it seems like the bigger b**** the customer is, the more likely they are to get their way. I’ve seen a girl throw a princess castle cake together in record time after a customer wouldn’t accept the one she made. Turns out, she only wanted the cake for free, she even tried to convince the store manager to give her the “messed up” cake for free. She went out to her car to get something, and never returned to pick up the “fixed” cake.
