More than 15 great things about the Detroit metropolitan area
The Detroit metropolitan area has a lot of interesting things for people to see and do.
I grew up in the Chicago area. I lived in the Cleveland area, Akron, Mich. area of Greensboro-Winston-Salem, Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids. No I have lived anywhere, but I've seen enough places to talk intelligently, and I know that Detroit has something to offer. Detroit has something to offer, despite what is heard on the news and people with negative attitudes.
These are the things I miss most, if I lived more here:
1. Professional sports teams: You have the Red Wings (hockey), the Tigers (Major League Baseball), the Lions are now winning in football once again Pistons (men's basketball), and shock (girls basketball). There are also several minor league teams baseball in a short drive, too.
2. The proximity of universities (less than 2 hours): University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan State University in Lansing, Eastern University Ypsilanti Michigan, Wayne State University in Detroit, the University of Detroit Mercy in Detroit, Adrian Adrian College, Albion College in Albion, Alma College in Alma College, at Mount of Olives Mount of Olives, and the University of Toledo in Toledo, Ohio. In addition, several other small colleges in the region of the city and its surroundings.
3. Coney Island Restaurants: What are your basic Greek restaurants tablespoon of fat, but you can always find chicken soup lemon and mouth watering, heart to kill Coney dogs waiting to devour. For those who do not know what a Coney dog is a hot dog in a bun covered with a Coney notably Chile, onion and mustard. Apparently it is repulsive, but it tastes really good!
4. Arab and Middle East Restaurant and Entertainment: Detroit metropolitan area has the largest population outside the Arab Middle East. It is a fact somewhat surprising. There is nothing more than a simple fact, unless you count all places that serve wonderful baklava, a sweet baked desert intense that it is almost like candy. It's a good humus and humus wrong. When you go to right places, there are few things as delicious as a piece of hot bread, soft pita bread dipped in hummus flavor property. Then you have your supremely spicy meat, gyros, kababs, schawarma, let more. You will not find a menu of dollars in these places, but you can eat a good meal without spending a money truck.
5. Papale Pizza: Buddy and pizza are the cornerstones pizza Coat of Detroit. The two have a good pizza pan. However, as no native of Detroit, these do not compare to Pizza Papa. Chicago is known for its pizza. There are many places outside the Chicago area who claim to have Chicago style pizza does not disappoint. Potato pizza cooked a Chicago style pizza, which compares favorably with the Chicago Giordono. Among my favorites, their spinach and three cheese pizza with pizza, sausage and mushroom pizza is a thick, cheese that melts in your mouth and makes a huge mess on the plate.
6. Cooke Dairy Farm: There are other dairy farms, but there are two (2) things that separate the package. Their ice cream is ice cream ever. It is enormously expensive and fattening but wonderfully useful. Also, let people come most of their animals are caged, but are still very accessible. This makes a fun day or a family reunion. Ice cream is really wonderful, however.
7. Casinos: There are three (3) casinos in the city limits of Detroit: Greektown, MGM Grand and MotorCity. You can stay in their hotel (which I did), but they all offer fun for adults. In addition, there are many others throughout Michigan. Often playing in the background entertainment. The win is great fun, too. We will not mention these other tours when we are not winning.
8. Greektown: Besides the casino, there is a section of Detroit that offers a taste of urban life in the old times. Also, several Greek restaurants. Pope himself is a pizza. After eating and playing, there are some bakeries. My favorite is the Astoria, which has huge portions. The only biggest thing is to select parts of surprises. When finished, you can take a quick tour of Detroit, the payment of fifty cents per person to climb the People Mover, a train that runs through the center of Detroit and its surrounding neighborhoods mini. The most elegant part of this trip is when you look across the river to see Canada and its Windsor, Ontario horizon. It really looks good at night. Oh! Did I mention the free parking if you park in the parking lot of Casino?
9. Mexican: This is a part of Detroit that has not really passed the "test of the air" and surroundings are unattractive, to say the least. Once you get to Mexicantown, You can find a group of Mexican restaurants and some shops. The food is great weather, and is a great economy. It's unlike any other camp I've ever seen.
10. About Canada: Before the days of 9 / 11 was actually an advantage. Across the river, the city of Windsor is waiting. You can go through an underground tunnel or a bridge. It is interesting to see a culture that is very different from the U.S., but you know you're in another country. The shops are different. Publishing the speed limits in kilometers, not miles per hour. They use different currency, so their money is different. They have different sweet. Windsor is not as large as Detroit, but it's a city. From my perspective, I feel as though a time warp to a simpler time, when I cross the river. "
11. Greenfield Village: This is an outdoor museum. While this is only the real flavor comes from the configuration. It was created as a people historical, waiting to discover and learn from the history in it. There was even someone who went through the town on a unicycle. Gangs roam the village, playing songs of yesteryear. You get your exercise walking. It is a great institution.
12:. Specialty Fruit Markets There are many fruit markets, specialized in fruits and vegetables carefully chosen. Interestingly, in my neighborhood in the city of Waterford, there is, but in most other parts of the region makes Detroit. Some of my favorites are Westborn Market, Papa Joe, and Salvagio Child. Bring your money, because these places are not cheap, but you get the best results.
13. Eastern Market: I lived in the Detroit area for years before I knew. There is a farmer's market outside is open every Saturday. In summer, mid-morning, you can hear music playing everywhere. Eastern Market is a huge market, and I mean big. Not only did the market has windows that real line outside the covered market. There are meat, fruit and other stores. If you go late enough (eg, one or two hours) can be very good business as sellers are seeking leave to sell as much as possible. In addition, a network of stations (in fact several of the other side) that can not be less than fifteen meters. Oh, it smells good, too.
14. Woodward Dream Cruise: For non-Detroit, Woodward Avenue is a main artery going from downtown Detroit to Pontiac, a city northeast suburb of Detroit, about 30 to 40 miles. This route passes through the most charming suburbs, however, but every year on August 1 Saturday, the road becomes a showcase for the car. Drivers cruising Woodward miles at a slow speed. People are in side of the road for miles and miles to see these old cars. In addition, there are many rooms antique car part on the side. This is where you can talk with car owners, and many of them are very happy to talk of their pride and joy. It's really stupid, but it is also very good and very funny.
15. Nearly all the beautiful parts of Michigan: This includes the beaches and parks. Michigan is surrounded by the Great Lakes, and many others rivers passing through there. Small lakes make their homes in the state. Find beaches requires no skill here. Would you like fishing, swimming, camping, or just walk by the very picturesque area, you're never far away. People marked "north" and this means that the areas of landscape with a simple lifestyle is driving north on I-75. You can say this about many places, but it is true that, as in Michigan.
16. Close to numerous orchards: According to what is "On time", you can pick strawberries, apples, peaches, blueberries, and more with just a short drive from Detroit. In addition, many orchards offer tours carriages and places for children to play. Actually becomes an event.
17. Frankenmuth: This city is within two (2) hours from most of the Detroit metropolitan area. It is a city that is an obvious tourist trap, but it is a diversion. This is an old time city-German placing great emphasis on Christmas Day. In fact, on the outskirts of the city, there is a store called Bronner, who sells Christmas-themed things almost every day, except for Christmas. the most famous restaurants in the city are Zehnders and Bavaria Inn. You can control many things, but I recommend the chicken family dinner. There are small shops the center of the city, and sits beside a picturesque river.
I may have lost other things, which is good. This means that the Detroit area offers even I am more than promising. Detroit Enjoy!
